Outdoor adventures

"I have always found Mary to be highly organised, so that any participant would feel confident that each outdoor adventure would flow well; that travel and accommodation options would be presented to the participants for their choice; and that transport linkages would be efficiently planned.

Mary ensured that we consulted together on the varying interests of the wider group, and democratically ‘voted’ on the final choices. Her style is gentle yet firm. She maintained links with this wider group and made suggestions for networking get-togethers.

From a group dynamics perspective, Mary keeps each person in mind, so that if required, they could be ‘looked after' if struggling, but in an adult manner. This might include situations where people of varying levels of physical abilities were supported to achieve goals such as finishing a trek, or climbing Tongariro. Equally, she has an ability to be objective about someone's ability, and may suggest that a planned activity may be outside their own achievement. This is done in a positive way, so that individuals retain their own sense of autonomy and self-esteem.

Snow shoeing Queenstown

Thanks a million for organising the snowshoeing trip to Queenstown, I have to say it exceeded all my expectations of it. As someone not very fit at the moment (ahem!) I was surprised at how doable the snowshoeing was, it was hardly more strenuous that just walking up a hill. Our guide on the snow Seb was very knowledgeable and good company on the walk, and paced things nicely for the abilities of the group. The highlight for me was walking across the frozen lake and then the sun coming out and staring up at Single Cone and Double Cone peaks while drinking a hot, sweet cup of tea. Heaven!

Tongariro Alpine Crossing

"Mary organised the most perfect weather conditions for our Tongariro Alpine Crossing. The following 8 hours will stay with me forever. The Crossing is not for the faint hearted, but it was the most beautiful day, photographs cannot begin to describe how it feels up there. Our guide, Catherine, was so considerate and full of knowledge about the local geographic area. We had our picnic lunch sitting alongside the lovely Emerald Lakes. Afterwards we shared a celebratory feast in the Chateau. Mission accomplished. Thank you so much Mary for a truly fabulous day."

"The Tongariro River trout fishing weekend was extremely good value, included a great mixture of activity options, time to mix and discuss, and accommodation which was simple but more than adequate with friendly hosts. The fishing was wonderful and the guides informative and we all certainly learned the key principles of fly fishing, in one of the most beautiful rivers in NZ. If this is the standard of event, I can't wait to join in on the next event. Great organising and gratefully appreciated."
